La King's Confectionery

Stepping through the doors you are carried back 100 years. The building is nearly 150 years old and much of the equipment and fixtures, within, have seen a Century come and go.

There are antique, acarde machines that bring howells of laughter from young and old alike. You can test your passion level and let the little ones ride the hobby horse. You can even stretch a penny with one of 4 designs to remember your visit.

The Candy Counter seems to go on forever. The endless choices tempt you at every step. There are high quality, hand-made chocolate treats as well as the classic, "dime store penny candy".   People are amazed to find circus peanuts, thrilled to see a wide arangement of rock candy and secretly joyed to find bubble gum cigerettes and cigars.

On weekends and through the summer, people gather around to see taffy being 'pulled', 'spun out', and packaged, right before their eyes. A special treat is in store as the candy maker tosses out samples for EVERYONE! Nothing beats fresh, warm, taffy.  You can even get one of the girls to dip a pound or two right out of the catch basket.

The other side of the shop hosts our Coffee Bar, Soda Fountain and Ice Cream Counter.

We feature 'Duncan Coffees' and brew seven different  flavors, daily. If you take a fancy to one of them, you can buy the beans by the pound.We will grind them for you or you can have them ground at your hotel/motel.

The Soda Fountain is an actual working antique. Not even the Smithonian's 'Cafe of America' can make you an Ice Cream Soda or Root Beer Float, the old fashioned way, like we can. Don't forget to get a spoon for your shake or malt, 'cause you're gonna need it! Many other ice cream treats await you, from classic 'Sundaes' to 'Splits'.  We also feature our own 'King Split' which is a pound, of your choice, of our own gourmet ice creams, topped the way you like it, and served with as many spoons as you need.

Speaking of gourmet ice cream, we offer 36 choices that include a selection of Yogurts, No Sugar Added and Sherbets. Who needs toppings when the ice cream is the best around. "Purity" is the oldest brand in Texas and La King's is the only place you can currently get it. We make it right here on the third floor of our building.  Now, that's fresh!
